Abstract. | The article deals with the time period of formation of Canada as a nation. Early 20th century was characterized by the rapid development of capitalism. A new wave of immigrants gives rise to further economic development of the country, which leads to the expansion of existing and construction of new plants in the newly developed areas. Regardless of the fact that the British architecture of the Victorian era was the official image of the government, the uniqueness of the Canadian architecture owes much to recent immigrants from Europe who wanted to create a semblance of new lands abandoned homeland. This desire was one of the causes of widespread styling and eclecticism in Canadian architecture of this period. The process of urbanization of the first half of the 20th century leads to the transformation of the urban environment. The city became a center of economic activity in which services are used by citizens and a kind of a transit node that redistributes population flows. At such times, especially acute question of the protection and preservation of historically significant buildings and urban structures which include the development of the eastern area of the city of Toronto. The current construction of the eastern area of the city being a historical monument, is a unique sample of a residential building of the Victorian era. Each architectural monument carries the two main values: historical and aesthetic. If the historical component is important to a narrow circle of specialists, the aesthetic – the whole society. Both components are important for the preservation of the historic appearance of the country. |
