Title of the articleegional features of architectural design in the South-East region
Abstract. The Arab region, where people have lived for over 10,000 years, has developed resilient ways of adapting to the desert environment. In such conditions, natural and climatic factors play a key role in shaping architectural and urban planning solutions, which differ significantly from approaches used in other regions. These solutions are aimed at creating a comfortable living environment, taking into account local climatic conditions, such as high temperatures, intense solar radiation, wind conditions, and limited water resources. The objective of the study is to analyze historical architectural solutions that contribute to comfortable living in areas with a hot climate. The tasks of the study are: to study historical architectural solutions for dense development used by Arab residents in urban planning to combat harmful winds; to identify architectural spatial solutions for buildings to combat high temperatures and the scorching sun; and to substantiate architectural planning solutions using historical cooling techniques for residential and public buildings. Research results. The layout of traditional neighborhoods, characterized by courtyards and narrow, winding streets, creates an effective system of natural shading, reducing solar radiation during daylight hours and improving the comfort of the urban environment. Architectural elements such as mashrabiyas and windbreaks are appropriate to integrate into contemporary design practices in the Middle East and North Africa, taking into account their adaptive potential.
