| Title of the article | Stylistic features of the private mansions of Kazan architects of the Art Nouveau era in the context of European and Russian analogues |
| Abstract. | Relevance. The architecture of the Art Nouveau era chronologically covers no more than two decades (1890s-1910s), but it was during this period that European countries and Russia experienced a turning point in the development of architectural trends, stylistic searches, and the use of technical capabilities. New methods of form creation found diverse manifestations in the architecture of mansions. From the perspective of the formation of an architects creative method, this period, which is still insufficiently studied, holds significant interest in addressing contemporary challenges related to the artistic integrity and stylistic coherence of architectural solutions. The objective of this study is to examine the creative methods of Kazans architects through the architectural solutions of their own mansions during the Art Nouveau era. The study tasks include: 1) review of stylistic techniques in the architecture of European and Russian mansions of the Art Nouveau and Modern periods; 2) stylistic analysis of the mansions of Kazan architects such as K.L. Myufke, F.R. Amlong, and K.S. Oleshkevich; 3) identification of the volumetric, planning, and compositional-stylistic features of the mansions of Kazan architects of the Art Nouveau period. Results. The article for the first time explores the volumetric-planning and compositional-stylistic features of the mansions of Kazan architects K.L. Myufke, F.R. Amlong, K.S. Oleshkevich in comparison with mansions of European Art Nouveau and Modern style in other Russian cities. The compositional-stylistic characteristics of the mansions of Kazan architects are revealed, the authors substantiated argumentation on the dating of the mansion of K.L. Myufke is given. For the first time, plans for mansions are being published, as well as archival materials on the design of F.R. Amlongs own mansion. Conclusions. In the architecture of the Kazan architects of the Art Nouveau era, the techniques and style elements characteristic of Art Nouveau and Modern style are reflected. A number of original techniques of form creation, under some influence of European and Russian analogues, have been adopted in the architectural practice of Kazan. Trends in the search for new stylistic techniques, as well as the desire to modernize classicist and regional traditions have been identified. Some of the methods of formation anticipated the compositional searches of the constructivists. The theoretical and practical significance of the study lies in the addition of new knowledge to the history of Russian and regional architecture, as well as in identifying the specific features of the creative approaches and stylistic searches of the leading architects of Kazan. The materials and theoretical provisions of the study are important for understanding the formation of the Kazan architectural school, for conducting further research on the work of Russian architects. |
