Title of the articleEnvironmentally sound diagnostics on the use and impact of ferrous metallurgy waste on chemical resistance and phase composition of acid-resistant materials
Abstract. The need for acid-resistant materials is noticeably increasing, but nevertheless the number of works devoted to the study of acid resistance of ceramic products is clearly insufficient. In particular, a sufficient amount of work has not been carried out on the mechanism of increasing this indicator. Modern ferrous metallurgy should most of all address priority issues in the field of energy efficiency improvement, waste reduction, minimizing negative environmental impacts and improving environmental safety. Due to the depletion of high-quality natural raw material reserves for the production of acid-resistant materials, it has become necessary to replace traditional raw materials with large-volume waste products from the ferrous metallurgy industry, which are characterized by a high content of refractory magnesium and chromium oxides. The purpose of the work: to analyze the influence of sludge tailings of the enrichment of chromium ores containing an increased amount of refractory oxides, magnesium (MgO>35%), chromium (Cr2O3>25%), on the chemical resistance and phase composition of acid resistors based on kaolin refractory clay. The objectives of the study are: to specify the key parameters of sludge tailings for the enrichment of chromium ores as a purifier and non-enriched refractory clay for the production of acid-resistant tiles with increased acid resistance and physical and mechanical properties. Results. Studies have shown that it is impossible to obtain acid-resistant tiles from kaolin non-enriched clay in the temperature range 1300-1350°C. which would follow state code and standards. The introduction of an optimal amount of chamotte 40% into the ceramic mass makes it possible to obtain acid-resistant tiles that meet the requirements of state standards at a firing temperature of 1350°C. Samples from the optimal composition contain highly refractory minerals (highly refractory compounds capable of resisting high temperatures from 1770 to 2000 °C): magnesia spinel (MgAl2O4, fire resistance 2135°C), forsterite (Mg2Si04, fire resistance 1810°C), chromite (FeCr2O4, fire resistance 2180°C), magnochromite (MgCr2O4, fire resistance 2330°C), which increase not only acid resistance, but also fire resistance. Conclusions. It was found that the introduction of calcined slurry "tailings" of chromite ore enrichment in the amount of 40% into the ceramic mass significantly increases technical performance at a temperature of 1350°C.
