Title of the article | Facades of historic stone masonry buildings: a review of restoration methods and techniques |
Abstract. | The relevance of the study is due to the fact that stone building structures in historical places represent one of the fundamental elements of architectural buildings and structures. These objects are often unique monuments of architecture and cultural heritage, reflecting historical periods and technologies of past eras. The aim of the study is to analyze modern methods and techniques of masonry restoration, compare and evaluate them, and identify optimal solutions for restoring and preserving the appearance of historic buildings. The objectives of the study are to review modern methods and techniques of restoration of the facades of historic masonry buildings, including analysis of existing restoration approaches and assessment of their effectiveness; to analyze the best known restoration methods and techniques, taking into account the physical and mechanical characteristics of the considered types of building materials; to propose recommendations for the protection and restoration of damaged masonry facades of cultural heritage objects, taking into account the current regulatory requirements and standards. Results. The main result of the study is the development of an integrated approach to the restoration and rehabilitation of damaged facades of historic stone buildings. Conclusions. The significance of the findings for architects and project designers is that they provide specific and science-based recommendations that will help preserve and restore historic masonry buildings while respecting their unique characteristics and meeting modern standards of sustainability and durability. |
