| Abstract. | The morphology of the city of Cheboksary goes back to the XIIIth century. According to archaeological data, the Bulgar city the Veda Suar was at a place of Cheboksary. Therefore, emergence of the Cheboksary hail is defined long before its mention in the Russian chronicles in 1371 and 1469. In 1557 on a place of the former city there was a new Russian fortress of the Moscow state. For research of the medieval fortified city of Cheboksary, the analysis of historical and architectural, archaeological and archival sources is made by the author. The basic planning, spatial and constructive principles of construction of Cheboksary fortress are revealed. Within the declared question the ancient system of a construction of the Russian cities is analyzed. «Law gradskij» was known in Russia since the IXth century and continued to be applied at the time of XVIth-XVIIth centuries. Creation of the Cheboksary hail of XVIth-XVIIth centuries conformed to fortification requirements of this period. At this time the city and fortress had identical concepts. |
