Title of the articleA method of determining the optimum diameter values of the heat supply network sections
Abstract. The enhancements in schemes and parameters of heat networks are one of the trends in energy saving for district heating systems. The study of operation modes of such heat networks, serving as a link between sources and consumers of heat, ensures the adoption of specific design and technological solutions which help to save both: heat and electric power. For a difference in cost factors for units of heat and electricity, for the purpose of energy saving it is possible to regulate thermal load using both: qualitative (heat curve) and quantitative (increasing costs with the possibility of reducing the heat carrier temperature at the delivery conduit and keeping the temperature constant at the return conduit) methods. Maximum or design temperature of the heat carrier determines the heat network layout and parameters. These parameters include: diameters of the pipeline sections, the flow of the heat carrier within these areas, its speed and pressure drops. When designing new installations of heating networks the optimum diameters of the heat network sections are determined by calculations of consumer loads and loads on heat network sections (from consumers to the source). In the analysis of the existing heating systems it's reasonable to use optimization techniques based on unit costs for the heat network. To determine the optimum diameter, the expression of specific costs is presented as a function of the variable, i.e. diameter value. Diameter optimum value is obtained on the condition that the derivative of the function is equal to zero.
Keywords.Heat supply system, heating network, optimization, cost per unit.
