Abstract.When several generations live together there are aggravated not only psychological and social aspects, but also ergonomic and anthropometric characteristics of people of all ages. In old age, all human systems are undergoing significant changes. As man becomes elder, his social position and lifestyle are changing and health is deteriorating. It becomes difficult for persons to adapt to age restrictions and changes in their lives. Therefore, we must pay particular attention to creating comfortable environment for elderly, to ensure a comfortable and safe living with relatives. We need to create not only decent living conditions, but also the environment for social and physiological adaptation of older people. The article reveals architectural and planning principles of the living environment for an elderly person – the principle of universality, the principle of structure, the dynamic principle, the principle of autonomy, the principle of ergonomics, the principle of the spatial differentiation, the principle of safety, the principle of visual communication, the associative principle and principle of personalization. Concepts of organizing the living space for families of several generations are defined. Methods and ways of organizing comfortable living environment for the elderly in terms of joint-separation are purposed.
