Title of the article | Gender culture in architectural supergraphics |
Abstract. | The article discusses specifics of gender culture and its manifestation in architectural supergraphics. Being a topical social phenomenon of current interest, supergraphics in its narratives often demonstrates «gender characteristics» carrying images of «masculine» or «feminine» features into urban environment, and therefore revealing their spiritual, social and philosophical content. The study of this phenomenon present equally significant scientific and practical interest. Identification of the value of gender factor in the artistic conception of graphic compositions, the degree of its influence upon the content of an artwork and the investigation of forms in which gender culture emerges in art works could significantly enrich the arsenal of design tools for architects and designers of built environment. Four aspects of gender factor emergence in architectural supergraphics are investigated in this study: - genres of architectural supergraphics with highly articulated gender directivity, with realistic approach towards characters representation and with direct addressing of gender orientations; these artworks present clearly recognizable male and female characters; - associative architectural supergraphics with gender contents that presents abstract compositions or/and realistic images without direct depiction of male or female figures, but gender identity is portrayed by means of associations; - street art being created using the principle if inter-correlation between masculine and feminine, where a new cultural ideal – a new social norm, a union of two ontological principles, - appears as a result of proclamation of equity between women and men in the society; - supergraphics as a mean of «destruction» of gender stereotypes (of «masculine» and «feminine»), abrasion of contradictions between them, which results in convergence of poles: «masculine» features soften, while «feminine» gain more confident, rigid and atypical features. |
