| Title of the article | Thermal engineering aspects of wall structures and architectural features of buildings made of soil-based materials |
| Abstract. | Low-rise eco-friendly architecture in Russia is forced to develop in harsh climatic conditions. The construction of buildings based on the use of soil is practically not carried out in Russia. In this regard, the purpose of the study is to identify the possibility of using soil as a biopositive material for the exterior wall of a low-rise eco-friendly building in the conditions of the Middle Volga region. The research tasks are to identify the classification of exterior walls of an eco-friendly building based on the use of soil; to trace the history of the construction of eco-friendly buildings of this type; to determine the characteristic features of the architectural solution and to analyze the thermal engineering aspects of a possible structural design of walls based on the use of soil in the climatic conditions of the Middle Volga region. Results. Several options for the structural design of walls based on the use of soil are considered: earth blocks, adobe, “earthbags”, and peat blocks. A brief history of the construction of such structures is described, as well as the general features of their spatial and planning solutions. The thermal performance of these exterior wall structures for the conditions of the Middle Volga region is analyzed. Conclusions. The significance of the results obtained for architecture lies in the thermal engineering justification of the possibility of designing and constructing buildings using various technologies for the structural design of walls based on the use of soil in the conditions of the Middle Volga region. The article proposes a wall design based on several options for the structural design of walls based on the use of soil. |
