Abstract. | Problem statement. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the origin, formation and development of large multifunctional architectural complexes of antiquity: imperial palaces, villas, forums. Results. The main results of the study are as follows: 1. The structure of multifunctional architectural complexes of antiquity created over the centuries has been revealed. Features of space-planning solutions of the complexes allow us to consider them as systems with a complex hierarchical structure, and in the study use the decomposition – partition method. Systems are studied according to one feature – the functional purpose of the elements included in them and they are divided into several levels. Based on the analysis, the sources and stages of the formation of large architectural complexes of antiquity are established. 2 The features of space-planning and compositional solutions of large architectural complexes of antiquity are revealed on the example of imperial palaces, villas and forums. 3. Examples of continuity in architecture, the use of techniques developed by ancient architects, when creating architectural complexes and buildings in the XVI-XIX centuries are presented. Conclusions. The significance of the results is to identify the basic principles of the formation and development of large architectural complexes of antiquity, the possible use of the techniques of ancient architects in modern architecture. |
