Title of the article | Water emulsions of epoxy resins, modified by concentrates of multilayer carbon nanotubes and silica sol |
Abstract. | Composite materials and, in particular, polymer composites are becoming an essential part of modern material science and technology. Important role in the adhesion between the reinforcing fibers and the polymer matrix in polymer composite materials belongs to lubricants (including coupling agents), applied on the surface of the fiber during manufacture. The aim of this study is to investigate the possibilities and technical and economic efficiency of producing nano-modified water emulsion of epoxy resins for use in compositions of lubricants for inorganic fibers. In manufacture of nano-modified emulsions as additives were used: - Multilayer CNT – in the form of solid concentrates (masterbatches) under the brand name Graphistrength С S1-25 (content of CNT – 25 wt. % «Arkema», France); - Silica sol – stable colloidal solutions of nanoparticles of amorphous silica dioxide (SiO2) («STC Compass», Kazan, Russia). Depending on the type of additive nanomodifier was administered in epoxy resin (in case using multi-walled CNTs) or in an aqueous solution of surfactant (in case of using silica sol). Technological possibility to obtain stable water emulsions of nano-modified epoxy resin having a smaller average of particle size (300-500 nm) compared with the unmodified system (740 nm) and more stable was established. This optimum content of nano-additives (per 100 parts by weight of resin) is as follows: - in case of using multiwalled nanotubes – 0,005 parts by weight; - in case of using silica sol – up to 2,0 parts by weight (in terms of SiO2). |
