Title of the articleWays of saving energy in water supply systems
Abstract.Electric energy expenses are a major component in the cost of municipal water services for households and industrial enterprises. Energy consumption in water supply systems, primarily depends on the volume of pumped water and the required pumping pressure. Based on this, as the main way of energy savings in water supply systems, is the wastage and water loss reduction. Reducing water consumption is achieved through improvements in accounting, pressure regulatory in the ground water use to reduce wastage, timely and quality current and overhaul repair services for water supply networks, as well as rapid identification and elimination of leaks. Reduction of water consumption for production purposes is possible by switching to low-water or waterless technology, by circulating water systems implementation, by replacement and modernization of outdated production equipment, and increased control over the rational water use. Reducing water consumption in existing water systems automatically leads to decrease in hydraulic resistance of water pipelines and water networks, and eventually to reduction of the required pumping pressure. Reduction of pressure loss in water supply networks is also possible through the use of polyethylene pipes that have the minimum hydraulic resistance nowadays. In addition, reduction of water consumption leads to a proportional reduction in the volume and energy consumption in wastewater collection, respectively.
Keywords.Water supply, energy consumption, reduction of water consumption, leakage and inefficient water use, pipeline hydraulic resistance.
