Title of the article | Reinforcement of a glue-laminated plywood I-joist |
Abstract. | Paper reviews reinforcing methods of the glue-laminated plywood I-joist which accommodated significant amount of defects of a glue seam between plywood web and flanges during exploitation period. Mentioned defects usually randomly allocated along length of the seam, thus their influence on the stress distribution variates substantially. In case of a composite simple supported joist, defects of the glue seam lead to a slip between the web and flanges. To determine areas of the seam where defects have more influence on stress distribution, model of the composite joist was created in FEM analysis software. This model had different areas of the glue seam compromised with modifications so that it was very similar to defect. 10 different defect areas of the glue seam were created, all on the left side of the joist with 5 in the top seam and 5 in the bottom seam. After calculations were done follow conclusions were reached. Defects being allocated near support areas cause more effect on the stress distribution than those allocated in the middle part of the joist. 47 % surge in the shear stresses inside of the web with defect allocated near support almost disappears with defect being moved to the middle of the span. Discrepancies in the vertical deformations of the joist are insignificant wherever defect is allocated. Reinforcing of the composite simple supported joist should be done prevailingly near supported areas and hence reinforcing elements could be installed more efficiently. |
