| Abstract. | The reason for choosing the topic of «time» in architecture for the study was the paradox of its absence among research subjects of architectural theory. Meanwhile such fundamental notions as space and time have great significance as categories and are attributes of Being. Space as the object of arrangement and as a factor influencing building construction has its place in the structure of architectural knowledge. As far as time is almost completely absent in it. The range of the scientific problems considered in the article is as follows. The source of knowledge about time in architectural science is explored. The chronological development of the aspect in question in theoretical and practical works is described. Through analysis of quotations of architects and people employed in correspondent fields the conclusion on the content of concepts and ideas relating to time in architectural activities is made. Possible directions for further studying are defined including urban development, design, perception and evaluation of architectural environment, history of architecture, architectural projection. Current condition in the field under consideration is analyzed and the depth of theoretical and practical elaboration of the question in modern science is determined. |
