Title of the articleBioclimatic architecture: an overview of experience of creating external comfort of the urban environment in a dry and hot climate
Abstract.Architects, urban designers and building engineers are more and more inclined to develop design methods that reduce the environmental impact of Architecture and urbanization. Many studies show that climatic phenomena such as urban heat island are both the causes and the consequences of the outdoor thermal discomfort and of the energy demand increase at the building scale. The buildings that makes up the urban fabric define two types of spaces (internal and external) that are, both, activity and places of life where it is necessary to look to the conditions of comfort and convenience. This article analyses the relationship between urban architectural design, outdoor thermal comfort and energy consumption of buildings in cities, which are located in the hot and dry climate. It describes the effect of architectural design and landscape elements on the thermal environment. It aims to highlight the importance of microclimate and the outdoor thermal comfort in the process of the planning and designing low-energy buildings. It offers a bioclimatic urban architecture based on useful recommendations that may help to design comfortable architectural and urban spaces and ensure a favourable quality of life for people who live in the arid environment.
