| Аннотация. | В статье представлена методика исследования общественного пространства улицы в историческом центре города, на примере города Казани. Методика Яна Гейла адаптирована для учебного процесса студента-архитектора. По мнению авторов, опыт подобных исследований важен на стадии высшего профессионального образования архитектора, так как воспитывает понимание ответственности за принимаемые архитектурные решения, которые формируют общественное пространство города, улицу. Обозначены особенности такого городского общественного пространства, как улица, приведены выводы четырех самостоятельных блоков комплексного исследования. |

| Title of the article | The investigation of urban public spaces methods in the educational process |
| Abstract. | The city’s environment and its public spaces quality issues came to the fore in the sphere of architecture in Russia. The major competitions are being hosted, the activists’ communities are being formed, the investigations are being conducted, master's programs are being created. Public space is an essential element of the city, this seemingly «emptiness» contains the «life» of the city. And the task of the architect is to «design the emptiness in which society could deliberately constitute themselves» (Jean Nouvel). The authors propose a method of downtown public spaces studying, such urban public space as the street is considered on the example of the streets of the historical center of Kazan city. The methodology of the study is based on the developments of Gehl Architects company, but adapted to the educational process of architect students’ higher education. The first stage of the study is to collect information about the street, its history, important events associated with it. The second stage is field investigation. It is carried out in groups of four, objectives of the study, respectively, are divided into four semantic units. The first unit is an analysis of the social activity and peoples’ behavior in the public space; the second unit is an analysis of the availability of a public space for a person; the third unit is the analysis of the activity of the street’s buildings’ ground floors in its public life; the fourth unit is the analysis of visual and noise ecology of the street. The third stage is an analysis of the collected data. For each stage of the research general conclusions are conducted, problematic and positive aspects of the street are identified, the potential of its development and improvement is evaluated. |
